Approvals should create operational intelligence
Pharma approvals can do more than control risk. They can reveal where work gets blocked, changed, or repeated.
Approval workflows are usually justified as a control mechanism. That is true, but incomplete. The approval process also contains signals about how the business operates.
Which requests are repeatedly missing information? Which reviewers create bottlenecks? Which budgets change most often? Which post-decision actions are forgotten?
When approvals run through email, these patterns are hard to see. When approvals run through structured workflows, the team can learn from the process itself.
This is the difference between storing decisions and improving operations. Pharma teams need both.
